Письмо прогрессивного политика потенциальным избирателям

ah yid says:

Here is an email I received from Brad Lander the demented leftist comptroller of NYC. It’s a long read but it gives you an idea how out of touch but dangerous the loony liberals are.

There’s no sugar-coating it, The election results are devastating. Like a gut-punch that knocks the wind out of you, making it hard to breathe or think straight, much less to respond.

And of course, it’s all-the-more terrifying for people whom Donald Trump has repeatedly demeaned and threatened, and whose rights and safety will be most on the line: Women, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ communities, and too many more.

Our nation is facing a truly precarious time. Trump has shown and told us over and over again who he is. There’s every reason to believe he will try to follow through – to amass power for himself, to weaken the federal government and undermine its check-and-balances, to commence mass deportations, to use the Justice Department and the U.S. military against those who stand up to him.

It will take time to grieve and process. On election night in 2016, I tweeted “Don’t mourn, organize!” Lots of people made clear that you’d organize, of course, but you’d need some time to mourn. This time around, I get it.

And we’ll need to analyze, too. To reckon with why so many of our fellow Americans voted for Trump – and how we can build a political vision and program to counter it. I hope we can do that reckoning both honestly and with compassion.

But even as we grieve and process, we’ll need to summon the collective courage, to stand up to protect our neighbors, our rights, and the institutions of our democracy right away.

That will look different in 2024 than it did in 2016. There’s no value in nostalgia for “resistance” energy. But we are going to have to do it. Maybe we should call it “protection” this time. Organizing to protect our neighbors, our country, our city – is powerful work. There will be lots of pain and fear and loss. And there will be heroes and surprises and joys and successes, too. Just as there have been in so many struggles of the past.

New York stands up when the things that matter are on the line. We did so yesterday: Passing Prop 1 to codify abortion access and reproductive health care in the State Constitution. Flipping three U.S. House seats and holding two more (that will hopefully be enough to give Democrats a majority in the House of Representatives).

New Yorkers have faced many crises before: The fiscal crisis of the 1970s, 9/11, Superstorm Sandy, Covid-19, and yes, Trump’s first term. We prevailed – even with many losses – by coming together across lines of difference to serve and protect each other, and to insist on a shared future.

To do that now, New York City will need leaders who will stand up to Trump and stand up for New York values.

So I promise you this: My campaign for Mayor of New York City will be a campaign to stand up for New Yorkers, to stand up for our values, and to stand up for our shared future. I hope you’ll be a part of it.

Remember, democracy is not just what happens on Election Day. It’s how we come together with our neighbors every day to fight for what we believe in, and to try to build a future that’s better than the present.

Sometimes, that work is full of joy. Sometimes, as this brutal morning reminds us, it is not. Regardless, I’ll be fighting alongside you every step of the way.

Today we mourn. But we’ll never stop standing up together to defend the things we know to be right, protecting those who are vulnerable, and fighting for the future we believe in.

Take care of yourself today, tzvi. It’s a hard day, with a long road ahead.

Brad
