Drone strike hit Chamchamal twice in less than a week
The unidentified drone targeted Chnartoo village early Monday in the Agh Jalar subdistrict in Chamchamal.
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants are suspected to have a presence in the area, which came under another drone strike on Dec. 27.
Turkey has previously conducted several drone strikes in remote areas of Chamchamal and other Kurdistan Region areas, where they have alleged had targeted PKK members.
A Turkish drone last year targeted a vehicle in the same area, resulting in causalities.
At least 12 Turkish soldiers have recently been announced dead in a fight with the Kurdish militants in Duhok province, whose borders have seen repeated clashes between the arch-foes.
Kurdistan Region officials have repeatedly called on the warring sides to take their fights away from the populated areas, where hundreds of villages have been evacuated.
