British conspiracy theorist David Icke has been barred from entering the Netherlands as a "risk to public order". He was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a controversial rally this weekend in Amsterdam.

Samen voor Nederland, an organization that grew in popularity for opposing all coronavirus rules in the Netherlands, announced last month that Icke would speak at their rally in Amsterdam's Dam Square. The organization has been involved in other protests, movements and rallies, including farmers demonstrations.

The Center Information and Documentation on Israel, an advocacy group for Jewish people and Israel, said Icke should be blocked from entering the Netherlands, calling him a "conspiracy theorist, anti-Semite, and Holocaust denier."

Dutch political parties worried about Elon Musk's Twitter takeover

Coalition parties VVD and CDA and opposition party Volt are critical of Elon Musk’s takeover of the social media company Twitter. They worry about whether it will remain possible to hold the social media platform to the law.

“In the Netherlands, we have established what is allowed and what is not, and you have to stick to that, period.”

Musk’s first plans “do not promise much good” for freedom of information. “In particular, the announcement that musk is committed to absolute freedom of expression is dangerous and not in line with our European values.”

“In Europe, the bird will fly according to our rules,” European Commissioner Thierry Breton responded to Musk’s plans.
