53% of Bulgarians claim to be religious. Nearly a third (29%) do not perceive themselves as religious people, and a tenth are atheists (9%). Another 10 percent can't decide how to answer.

Bulgaria is rather in the middle (or even slightly below it) of the "ranking" of declared religiosity - below the average levels on a global scale, but far from the extremely low levels observed in other countries. Bulgaria is close in attitudes to the other eastern EU countries.

In our country, as well as in most countries of the world, those who believe in the existence of God (58%) seem to be more than those who define themselves as believers in general. Nearly a quarter believe there is no God, and 15% are not quite sure.

Autocracy, aristocracy, monarchy – none of them is a credible competitor. This is an unprecedented situation in history.

It is only in authoritarian countries, such as Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey to name a few or illiberal democracies such as Hungary, that it still is forbidden or dangerous to criticize the ruler.

In our time, one can criticize this or that failing of a particular democracy, but not the principle of democracy itself.

As many as 81.9 percent of Danes have felt a “spiritual need” in the past month, according to a new study. The paper, the largest of its kind to date, gathered data from 26,678 participants of all ages.

The researchers seek to emphasise the links between spiritual belief and physical health, promoting a holistic understanding of healthcare.

They also point out Denmark’s curious relationship with secularity. “We consider Denmark a ‘post-secular’ culture,” write the researchers.

Paris police banned protests on Saturday at Place de la Concorde, near the National Assembly parliament building, after two evenings of clashes between demonstrators and riot police.

It said it was doing so "due to serious risks of disturbances to public order".

Police used teargas to try and clear the area. Sixty-one people were arrested, according to the police.

In the southeastern city of Lyon, demonstrators tried to break into a town hall and set fire to the building; 36 arrests were made.

Netherlands residents had less sex last year than in 2014 when Statistics Netherlands (CBS) started keeping track of this in its Health Survey and Lifestyle Monitor. Young people aged 16 to 25, in particular, were less sexually active, while senior citizens over 75 had more sex.

CBS, in collaboration with the RIVM, Rutgers, and SOA Aids Nederland, surveyed people over age 16 on whether they had sex in the past 12 months.

70 percent answered “yes” last year, compared to 74 percent in 2014. The decrease was particularly visible in the 16 to 25 age group - 63 percent were sexually active in 2014 and 56 percent last year.

Farmers movement BBB has become the largest party in all twelve Dutch provinces, according to the provincial results.

This was the BBB’s first time participating in the provincial elections, and its massive victory translates into 16, maybe 17 seats in the Eerste Kamer, the Dutch Senate, according to a prognosis.

Greece is blocked by a 24-hour general strike. The transport is not moving. Government offices are closed. Large-scale protest demonstrations are being prepared throughout the country.

Trains, ferries, city buses are suspended. The Athens subway only runs during protest hours to transport demonstrators. Air traffic controllers are also participating in the strike, which has stopped air flights to all airports. Schools and universities will not open today.
